How many dancers are in a class?

At Starlighter’s Performing Arts Center, we believe in small class sizes. Our smaller class sizes allow for more individualized learning. We strive to have our preschool dance classes have no more than 8 students. All other classes range in size from 12 to 15 (maximum) and are based on age, level, and experience. We also offer private lessons for those needing/desiring one-on-one teaching.

How do you determine levels for dancers? Do you have a discount program?

We keep our basic instruction dancing at age appropriate levels. Teacher consultation advised. As they progress in their abilities and passion for dance, there are areas of skill attached to the classes available. The discounts we offer for more than one dance class per week, more than one dancer… are to be found on our tuition page. (Please click here)

Can I observe my child’s dance class?

Yes, we have a designated Christmas Observation Week! It is usually held the mid part of December. We ask them to wear something festive for the season and have refreshments afterwards. Parents, extended family members, and friends are welcome to attend.

For the first class of the year, we typically ask that parents stay to ensure that the dancer is comfortable. For those with pre-school children, we ask you help change out the dance shoes mid-point of class. For your viewing, we have windows in the lobby where you can watch your child’s class as it happens!

Summer classes have a performance the Saturday after the final class, typically the first part of August. This entails a simple costume and pre-show performance at a Branson Theatre. The dancers and family then get to stay and watch the professionals for a discounted rate!

Do I have to be in the recital?

No, the recital is optional. There are additional costs involved in putting on a recital:  Recital Fees, Costumes fees, the options of a DVD, professional pictures, flowers, etc.  However, the experience of the young dancer on stage - with family seeing all their hard work producing such a lovely dance in their adorable costumes is a thrill many remember for their lives.

I have heard that dancers should dance on a special kind of floor. What kind of floors do you have?

Our beautiful, state-of-the-art studio is equipped with the best floors. Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping, which can put stress on bones and joints. Unfortunately, most dance footwear does not provide the needed cushioning or support, so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees and back of a dancer. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing a studio with a professional “Floating Floor.” A floating floor is a dance floor that rests on a system of high‐density foam, to absorb the shock of jumping. Our floating floors all rest on high-density foam here at SPAC!
